Biofuels & Biobased Materials

Typical Applications

  • Biodiesel (FAME) production

  • Biobased ester synthesis

  • Purification of biobased intermediates

Corresponding Products & Uses

Potassium Methylate (KM32)

  • Use: Alkoxide catalyst for transesterification in biodiesel production

  • Process Scenario: Reaction of vegetable oils or waste oils with methanol to produce FAME

  • Key Advantages:

    • Strong basicity enabling high reaction rates

    • Methanolic solution, ready-to-use and suitable for continuous processing

Sodium Methylate (NM30)

  • Use: Widely used alkaline catalyst in industrial biodiesel plants

  • Process Scenario: Large-scale continuous transesterification systems

  • Key Advantages:

    • Proven industrial technology with stable performance

    • Cost-efficient for high-throughput production

Potassium Carbonate (K₂CO₃)

  • Use: Neutralization and purification of crude glycerol

  • Process Scenario: Deacidification and pH adjustment during biodiesel byproduct refining

  • Key Advantages:

    • Mild alkalinity (pH 10–11)

    • Avoids introduction of strongly corrosive bases, facilitating downstream purification
